Day 1: Downtown Miami & the Bay

Wondering how to spend three days in Miami without a car? There’s no better way to ease into city life than by exploring the lively waterfront right outside our Elser Hotel doors.

Morning: Waterfront Wandering
Start your day with a stroll through Bayfront Park, where palm-lined paths meet the shimmering edge of Biscayne Bay. From there, make your way to Bayside Marketplace — the beloved hub of shops, open-air dining, and live music that reflects the city’s electric energy. Before you move on, take a spin on the Skyviews Miami Observation Wheel. The glass gondolas offer a spectacular 360° introduction to the city that will help orient your entire Miami itinerary.

Afternoon: Culture Meets the Bay
Spend your afternoon in Museum Park, one of Miami’s most enthralling cultural areas. The Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science is a world-class destination, with four immersive floors and a stunning aquarium that engages curious minds of every age. Right next door, the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) showcases modern and contemporary art against floor-to-ceiling bay views that are as striking as the collection itself.

Evening: Golden Hour at Bayview Terrace
As the sun begins its descent, make your way back to The Elser Hotel and claim your spot on the Bayview Terrace. Sip a craft cocktail as the Miami skyline glows against Biscayne Bay — this is the golden hour moment that makes every trip unforgettable. Later, head downstairs to ViceVersa for dinner: a Negroni, a wood-fired Neapolitan pizza, and the kind of effortlessly cool atmosphere that keeps locals coming back night after night. Welcome to Miami.

Day 2: Wynwood, The Design District & Miami After Dark

Day 2 of your Miami itinerary takes you north into the creative soul of the city — two neighborhoods that reward wanderers with art, flavor, and serious nightlife energy.

Morning: Wynwood
Wake up to another beautiful morning in Miami and go directly to The Wynwood Walls — the world’s largest permanent outdoor street art museum, where warehouse-sized murals by internationally renowned artists transform the streets into a living gallery. Wander the surrounding blocks and see the art extending far beyond the official walls, as every alley, corner, and façade seemingly has a story to tell. Consider booking a guided street art tour early in your trip. Local experts illuminate the stories behind the work and unlock a deeper appreciation for everything you see.

Midday: The Design District
A short stroll north brings you into the Miami Design District, where luxury retail and serious contemporary art coexist in one beautifully curated neighborhood. The Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA Miami) is both free and excellent — a genuinely compelling destination whether or not high-end shopping is on your agenda. Explore the boutiques, take in the architecture, and enjoy a leisurely lunch before the afternoon heat sets in.

Evening: Wynwood After Dark
As the sun dips, Wynwood shifts gears entirely. The neighborhood’s bars and restaurants come alive, and the energy is palpable. Secure a dinner reservation in advance for popular hot spots, or head to Coyo Taco on NW 2nd Avenue for “Miami’s freshest Mexican street food experience.” For those ready to go on an “immersive adventure encompassing the luxury and sophistication of a one-of-kind experience,” E11EVEN Miami is the city’s legendary 24/7 ultra-club — complete with live performances, signature theatrics, VIP rooms, and upscale dress code.

Day 3: Choose Your Miami Adventure

One of Miami’s greatest attractions is that no two trips look alike. Day 3 is yours to design, and depending on your mood, here are two excellent options.

Option A: South Beach
South Beach is everything you’ve imagined and more. Claim your stretch of white sand along Lummus Park Beach, where the Atlantic is warm and impossibly clear, and the pastel Art Deco hotels of Ocean Drive form one of the most iconic backdrops in the world. Rent a bike and cruise the length of the beachside path, or simply stroll Ocean Drive and let the architecture do the talking.

In the afternoon, the Bass Museum of Art offers a refined change of pace with a thoughtfully curated permanent collection. Nearby, Lincoln Road Mall is the ideal spot for a long, leisurely lunch surrounded by boutiques and open-air cafés. Come evening, South Beach’s culinary scene is in full swing. Joe’s Stone Crab — open since 1913 and still one of Miami’s most celebrated dining institutions — is the kind of place that earns its legendary status with every visit.

Option B: Little Havana
For a Miami experience that feels authentically local, Little Havana is an afternoon unlike any other. Make your way to Calle Ocho (SW 8th Street) and let the neighborhood unfold at your own pace. Stop at a ventanita for a Cuban espresso, watch the old-timers play dominoes at Máximo Gómez Park, and step into El Titan de Bronze to see master cigar rollers at work. The Cuban restaurants along Calle Ocho serve the real thing: ropa vieja, pressed sandwiches, tostones, and ice-cold guarapo. It’s an afternoon that stays with you long after you’ve left.

As evening falls, Ball & Chain on Calle Ocho is perfect for your final night in Miami. It’s a beautifully restored 1930s jazz club with live salsa, Latin jazz, and Afro-Cuban rhythms most nights. No cover, great energy, and a crowd that knows how to celebrate.

Rainy Day? We Have You Covered.

Miami’s afternoon showers are brief and warm, but on the rare occasion the skies stay gray, the city’s indoor scene is more than up to the task.

Stay Cultural
PAMM and the Frost Museum of Science are steps from The Elser and together make for a richly rewarding day. In Wynwood, the Museum of Graffiti adds indoor depth to the street art all around you. The Wolfsonian-FIU in South Beach is dedicated to the art and design of the modern era, and one of Miami’s most underrated institutions.

Shop the Design District
The Design District’s boutiques and galleries are cool, covered, and great for browsing. Pair with a long lunch and you have the makings of a lovely rainy day.

Check the Elser Calendar
Each day, we offer free fitness classes — complete with a complimentary mimosa or wellness shot — as well as a variety of engaging events throughout the year. Whether it’s raining or not, be sure to view our Upcoming Events at The Elser.

Embrace the Suite Life
If the rain invites you to simply slow down, let it. Order a gourmet breakfast to your suite, brew something warm in your fully equipped kitchen, and watch the weather move across Biscayne Bay from your private balcony. At The Elser, staying in is never second best.

FAQs

Is Downtown Miami a good place to stay for a three-day trip?
Yes, Downtown Miami is a very good place to stay — especially for first-time visitors or those who want to experience more than just the shoreline. Centrally located and well-connected, it puts every major neighbourhood within easy reach, from Wynwood and the Design District to South Beach and Little Havana, making it the ideal base for a great three-day trip.

What’s the best time of year to visit Miami for a long weekend?
For a long weekend in Miami, the sweet spot is March through May. It’s warm and sunny without the heavy humidity of summer, and a little quieter than the peak winter rush.

How do I get from Downtown Miami to Wynwood and South Beach?
Getting from Downtown Miami to Wynwood and South Beach is easy. For Wynwood (just two to three miles away), the free City of Miami Trolley runs directly to the Wynwood Walls and is the most convenient option for most guests. If you prefer public transit, the Metrobus Route 2 from Government Center drops you right in the heart of the Arts District. In a hurry, a rideshare takes around five to 10 minutes and typically costs between $11 and $15.

What are the best day trips from Miami if I have extra time?

Here are some great options depending on how much time you have:

  • The Everglades is the most popular day trip from Miami — about an hour’s drive west. Airboat tours are the classic way to explore, and wildlife sightings (alligators, birds, manatees) are virtually guaranteed.
  • Key West is a full-day commitment — roughly three to 3.5 hours each way — but iconic for a reason. The drive down the Overseas Highway alone is reason enough, with the ocean stretching out on both sides.
  • Key Largo and Islamorada are closer stops along the Florida Keys (about 60 to 90 minutes from Miami) and are ideal for snorkelling, diving, and waterside dining.
  • Fort Lauderdale sits just 30 miles north and makes for an easy half-day — beautiful beaches, a charming Riverwalk, and a thriving arts scene that often surprises first-time visitors.

Palm Beach is about 90 minutes away and offers a completely different energy: refined, unhurried, and worth it for Worth Avenue shopping, the Norton Museum of Art, and the stunning oceanfront.
